This September, the Rákóczi Association will greet over 9000 ethnic Hungarian pupils beginning their education in Hungarian-language primary schools with help from its network spanning the Carpathian Basin.

Families of children enrolling to Hungarian-language elementary schools will receive the scholarship, backed by Hungarian civil society including hundreds of municipalities, in over 500 localities.  The scholarship, backed by civil society in the mother country including hundreds of municipalities, is a recognition of parents' correct and responsible decision, owing to the fact that Hungarian school choice is the guarantee of the subsistence of Hungarian language and culture in minority communities.

The delivery of the Rákóczi Association's scholarships and school bags began on Sunday, 30 August, at the National Commencement Ceremony of Hungarian Schools in Slovakia in Szepsi.

Scholarships and schoolbags honouring Hungarian school choice are to be handed over to some 3600 first-graders in Felvidék, as well as close to 2000 in Supcarpathia, 1300 in Voivodina, as well as over 2000 children enrolling to Hungarian-language elementary school in Transylvania and the Partium region (Bihar, Máramaros, Beszterce-Naszód, Arad, Temes, Fehér, Hunyad and Szeben counties, and the areas surrounding the towns of Torda and Dés). Some 200 Csángó Hungarian children attending Hungarian language classes also receive the support.

Unfortunately, the danged posed by the epidemic continues to be with us. Towards Transylvania and Voivovidina, cross-border traffic has been restricted since early July and a hard border separates Hungarians in Felvidék from their compatriots in Hungary since September. However, the the Rákóczi Association does all it can to ensure that Hungarian families sense the support of civil society in the mother country in this dire situation.
