On 25th February 2020, wreaths were laid at the Monument of National Martyrs to mark the Memorial Day for the Victims of Communism, established by a resolution passed by the National Assembly on 13th June 2000.

The event, organized jointly by the Office of the National Assembly and the Rákóczi Association, saw the participation of over 350 Budapest high school students. Wreaths were laid by Speaker of the National Assembly László Kövér, Minister of Human Capacities Miklós Kásler and Chairman of the Rákóczi Association Csongor Csáky.

 

Day in memory of the victims of communist dictatorships 

 
 

The choir of the Zoltán Kodály Primary School, Secondary School and Elementary-Level Art School sang at the event.

Festive speeches were delivered by Réka Kiss Földváry, chairperson of the Committee of National Remembrance, and Béla Morvay, an expelled victim of communism. Following this, the poem “Funeral Oration” by Sándor Márai was recited by Ádám Kurucz.

The commemoration ended by singing the Szózat.
